Cereal Box Number Leads To Phone Sex Line

Cereal Box Number Leads To Phone Sex Line
CINCINNATI (UPI)

Kroger stores in Cincinnati said cereal boxes named for Bengals star Chad Ochocinco are being pulled due to a
misprinted phone number leading to a sex line. Store managers said the Ochocinco cereal was supposed to bear the number 1-888-HELP-FTC, which connects to Feed the Children, the charity the cereal is supporting, but customers who attempted to call the number listed on the box, 1-800-HELP-FTC, were instead connected with a phone sex line, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
“We didn’t even know the other number existed,” said Tony Sellars, spokesman for Oklahoma City-based Feed The Children, which took responsibility for the error.
Robert Bailey, president of Rosenhaus Sports, the firm representing Ochocinco, said the player expects the correct number to appear on future boxes of the honey nut cereal.

Amityville Horror House For Sale

Amityville Horror’ house for sale

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (UPI) — The New York state house that inspired “The Amityville Horror” is back on the market for an asking price of $1.15 million.

The home, where Ronald DeFeo Jr. killed six family members in 1974, and which was supposedly haunted when George and Kathleen Lutz lived there for 28 days,
was listed Monday in Amityville by Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty, Newsday reported.

The events at the home inspired Jay Anson’s 1977 book, “The Amityville Horror: A True Story,” which in turn became the basis for several film adaptations.

“It’s one of the more beautifully redone houses in the neighborhood,” listing agent Laura Zambratto said.

How Ironic!

Last summer, I read Jay Anson’s “The Amityville Horror” and watched the movie last night. I never want to live in that house. Good luck to the person/familly who will end up buying it!

Earthquakes And Tsunamis

Deadly Earthquakes And Tsunamis

Michio Kaku

It is likely that, within our lifetime, we will see a big earthquake ravage a populated area, such as northern Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, or Istanbul,
to name a few major cities. These are earthquakes waiting to happen. It is inevitable that we will see a big one in the United States. It’s not a matter
of if – It’s a matter of when. But it’s black magic to predict. Precisely when such an event will happen – Earthquake prediction is an infant science.

How powerful was the Chilean earthquake? It packed 500 to 700 more energy than the Haitian earthquake. When you go from a 7 to 8 on the Richter scale for
earthquakes, the energy goes up by 32 times. So, going from 7.0 to 8.8, you find an increase in energy of about 500 to 700 times!

Why were so many more people killed in Haiti? Many reasons. First, earthquakes do not kill people – Buildings and Structures kill people. Chile has a long
history of monster earthquakes – the 1960 earthquake was the largest recorded in modern history and hence a longer history of enforcing building codes.
The last major Haitian earthquake was two centuries ago, so building codes were routinely ignored. Second, there are other factors (proximity, population
density, warning time, etc.) Are we seeing more earthquakes? Not really. Okinawa registered a 7.0 earthquake, comparable to the Haitian earthquake, just
before the Chilean earthquake, but got no coverage. The point is that the media only focuses on earthquakes which hurt and kill people, not the ones which
pack the most energy.

In 1811 and again in 1812, a huge earthquake hit the Tennessee-Kentucky area when the New Madrid fault gave way. It was so huge that the Mississippi River
even ran backwards. Back then, population densities were very low, and national media did not exist, so most people have never heard of it.

If it happened today, the damage could be incalculable.

In 1964, the Great Alaskan Earthquake hit the US with a magnitude of 9.2, making it the second largest earthquake ever recorded. But again, population was
low and the media did not carry the story.

The San Andreas fault, running 800 miles through California, is unstable. It last erupted in 1857 and again in 1906. My grandfather was in the 1906 San
Francisco earthquake. According to the US Geological Survey, there is a 62% chance of a big 7.0 earthquake hitting San Francisco in the next 30 years.
A 7.0 earthquake would kill 7,000 to 18,000 people in Los Angeles, according to the USGS. Property damage could run upwards of $250 billion, depending
on precisely where the earthquake hit. If the 1906 earthquake were to re-strike the San Francisco area, it would kill an estimated 5,800 people.

Because of budget cuts, California is vulnerable, despite spending on reinforcing its infrastructure. According to the USGS, a big earthquake would destroy
all freeways in the San Francisco or Los Angeles area. Also, the Port of Los Angeles would be closed, causing an estimated $36 billion dollars damage to
the economy. In 2002, a study found that 2100 out of 9600 schools were not guaranteed to hold up in case of an earthquake, according to the state’s architect’s
office.

What causes a tsunami? A violent sinking of the earth’s crust along a fracture under the ocean causes massive water waves. These waves can travel hundreds
of miles per hour, like a jet liner. The waves themselves are only a few inches tall, but very, very deep. So an ocean liner may not even know that it
was hit by this wave.

Why are tsunami waves so tall when they hit land and kill potentially hundreds of thousands? When a wave hits land, the wave grows drastically in height,
from a few inches to many, many feet. This is because when the wave hits a beach, the bottom of the wave slows down faster than the top of the wave. The
excess energy spills over into increasing the height of the wave.

How is the US affected? Hawaii has to worry about tsunamis that originate from Alaska, South America, etc. that travel across the Pacific. Hilo has suffered
great damage in the past from such earthquakes. Also, off the coast of Seattle, there is a huge fault line which can not only destroy much of the American
Northeast, but also trigger monster tsunamis which can kill people in Japan. This has happened centuries ago.

What can be done? More buoys can be placed in the oceans to monitor tsunamis and early warning systems can be increased. More warnings from satellites and
telecommunications are necessary. More bluntly, more nations have to reinforce their building codes because the world’s population has exploded in the
past 50 years, the danger is quite severe in many countries.

_______________________________________________________________

There is nothing unusual happening with the earth’s interior so it is an illusion that something is suddenly creating these huge earthquakes. There us a
slight uptick in earthquake activity in the last 15 years, but is minor.

I guess we could only hope that humanity doesn’t have to experience another one anytime soon …

Dog Unharmed By Bus Collision

Dog unharmed by bus collision

LONDON (UPI) — A British man said his dog was miraculously unharmed after being struck by a double-decker bus and becoming stuck between the vehicle’s
front wheels.

Brian Levy, 70, of London, said he was walking Chloe the Dalmatian near his home when the dog slipped its leash and ran into the street toward a dog on
the other side, the Daily Mail reported.

Levy said he feared the worst when Chloe was hit by the No. 31 First bus and was shocked to find the dog still alive, but stuck between the front wheels.
He said he was further shocked a few moments later when firefighters used a hydraulic jack to lift the vehicle and found the dog was completely unharmed.

“Chloe’s had a check-up at the vet’s and it’s amazing — she is in shock but doesn’t have any injuries at all,” Levy said. “She was trapped under the front
axle, between the two front wheels.”

Man Finds Jesus In Burnt Pan

Man finds Jesus in burnt pan

SALFORD, England (UPI) — A British man who fell asleep while cooking bacon said he awoke an hour later to find the image of Jesus Christ burned into the
base of the frying pan.

Toby Elles, 22, of Salford, England, said he was making a bedtime snack after having some beers with housemates and fell asleep on the couch while waiting
for his bacon to cook, the Daily Mail reported.

“When I woke up about an hour later the room was full of smoke,” he said. “Luckily we have an electric hob so I just turned off the heat, but then I lifted
up the bacon and there was JC looking back at me.

“It’s some kind of miracle,” Elles said.

He said the “gift from God” image clearly depicts the eyes, nose and familiar long hair and beard of Jesus.

“I’m not going to scrub it clean though, just in case I get struck by lightning, it’s going to take pride of place on a wall instead,” he said. “It’s become
quite a talking point for people who come round to the house and I have even thought I might get a glass cabinet to put it in.

“I’m going to keep it for the rest of my life, perhaps it can watch over me,” Elles said.

Feet Stink Up Airport Carpet

Feet stink up airport carpet

PALM BEACH, Fla. (UPI) — Officials at a Florida airport said security workers want to replace two carpets at checkpoints they say have been ruined by passengers’
smelly feet.

Palm Beach County Airports Director Bruce Pelly said at an advisory board meeting Wednesday that security officials at Palm Beach International Airport
“are complaining of odor” left behind on the floors from the smelly feet of those who remove their shoes for the two security checkpoints, the Palm Beach
Post reported.

“They just want the carpeting changed,” airport spokeswoman Casandra Davis said.

Davis said airport managers are formulating a plan to replace much of the carpeting and tile inside the airport, but no plans have been finalized.

Sari Koshetz, a Miami spokeswoman with the Transportation Security Administration, which operates the security checkpoints, said officials would support
changing the carpets. She said finding time to clean the carpet is difficult, as the checkpoints open at 4:30 a.m. each day and may not close until 1 a.m.
if flights are delayed.

“Getting carpet shampooed and dried in that short time window can be a challenge,” Koshetz said.

Police: Drunk man drove off with gas hose

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (UPI) — Indiana

Police said they arrested an alleged drunk driver who drove awayfrom a gas station with the nozzle and hose still attached
to his vehicle.

St. Joseph County police said they received calls Monday night about a truck on westbound U.S. 20/U.S. 31 with a gas station hose dangling from the side
and striking passing vehicles, the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune reported.

Officers said the driver, a 46-year-old South Bend man, smelled of alcohol when he was pulled over on Indiana 2 and failed several field sobriety tests
before being booked into the St. Joseph County Jail. Police said his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.13 at the jail, well over the 0.08 legal limit
for driving.

The man told police he had recently purchased gas from a Speedway station. The hose and nozzle were returned to the business.

Late Woman Made Up Hit-And-Run

Police: Late woman made up hit-and-run

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (UPI) — Police in Pennsylvania said they arrested a woman who allegedly invented a story about being struck by a car to avoid losing her
job due to tardiness.

State Police said Courtni Jennyne Roberts, 20, of Uniontown, arrived at Uniontown Hospital Feb. 5 and claimed to have been struck by a black car on her
way to work, The (Uniontown) Herald-Standard reported.

However, a trooper dispatched to the hospital at about 4:50 p.m. was told the injury on Roberts’ left leg was inconsistent with the type of collision she
was describing.

“Upon further questioning, the defendant confessed that she was late for work and lied about the incident in order to prevent termination from employment,”
Trooper Marc Ziegler said.

Roberts was arrested and charged with making false reports to police.

Tasters Sample Prison Punishment Loaf

Tasters sample prison punishment loaf

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UPI) — A “food loaf,” designed to provide nutrition for prisoners while punishing them, got poor reviews during a tasting at a Florida
legislative hearing.

State Sen. Victor Crist, chairman of the Criminal and Civil Justice Appropriations Committee, and several volunteers sampled the loaf Wednesday, The Palm
Beach (Fla.) Post reported. Richard Prudom, chief of staff of the Department of Corrections, brought two sample loaves and the recipe to the hearing at
the request of another senator who refused to eat it.

The kindest comment was not an enthusiastic one: “Doesn’t smell bad.” There was general agreement the item is mostly tasteless.

The biggest problem for those who sampled the loaves was the texture. As one said, the consistency is that of “something that’s been eaten before.”

The ingredients were listed as carrots, spinach, black-eyed peas, beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste, grits, water and oats. The Post described the loaf
as smelling of spinach, tasting bland and having a mushy consistency.

“I don’t find anything offensive about it, but it’s not something I’d order off the menu,” said Crist, a Tampa Republican who is not related to Gov. Charlie
Crist.
